An outstanding feature of this conference was the way that the more eminent and experienced conservators then mingled and struck up discussions with those just starting out in the conservation world. Tours on the second morning allowed even greater opportunity for meeting others and forging strong links with many future projects being discussed.

Missing Kuala Selangor War Memorial - Found! by Andrew Hwang December 2009
The war memorial obelisk is a shadow of its former self and should be restored. More importantly, just like the war memorial at the Stadthuys in Melaka, this memorial commemorates 7 fallen Malay soldiers who gave their lives in order to protect their homeland from invaders in WW2.

It was an historic moment for Badan Warisan Malaysia when, at approximately 1p.m. on Saturday 4 July 2009, our President, YABhg Tun Ahmad Sarji bin Abdul Hamid signed a lease agreement for the management of Suffolk House with YAB Mr Lim Guan Eng, Chief Minister of Penang, witnessed by about 40 people including the State Secretary YBhg Datuk Zainal Rahim Seman members of the State Ex-Co, the Penang Heritage Trust and Friends of the Botanical Gardens, as well as members of the press and media.

MERDEKA STADIUM RESTORATION RECEIVES AWARD OF EXCELLENCE FROM UNESCO September 2008
Badan Warisan Malaysia congratulates the Merdeka Heritage Trust and Permodalan National Berhad on winning the Award of Excellence for the 2008 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards for Culture Heritage Conservation for the restoration of Stadium Merdeka. We also delighted that the restoration of Suffolk House in Penang received the Award of Distinction. Congratulations to Arkitek LLA Sdn Bhd, HSBC and the State Government of Penang.

Conserving Historic Federal Hill

Federal Hill is a unique forested green area and one of KL’s last large green lungs, the only other within the Kuala Lumpur City Centre being Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve. It is well served by public transport along Jalan Bangsar and the KL Sentral transportation hub, has easy access with ample parking for cars. Many joggers and cyclists are seen during the mornings and evenings, and Hash House Harriers use the area regularly.
