The Old Survey Department
Built
in 1910 to house the Federated Malay States (FMS) Survey Department, the building's
dramatic 121.9m (400 ft) arcade is punctuated by two entrances, each with a
twin chatri on top. Domed, octagonal towers flank both ends of the long, narrow
building, accentuating the corners. Note the distinctive cinque-foil shaped
arches that create a powerful geometric rhythm. Today the building belongs to
the judiciary and houses the Sessions and Magistrates Courts. However, it is
still popularly known as The Old Survey Department building.
