Members' Trip to Negeri Sembilan We are planning a self-drive trip to Pengkalan Kempas-Linggi-Rembau for members. Among the proposed activities will include a heritage walk in Rembau, a visit to the megaliths in Pengkalan Kempas (photo above) and a top at the Dutch Fort in Linggi.

GIFT SHOP News: Discount on BWM Publications Badan Warisan Malaysia is offering a special discount on its publications to members and students.

Selangor & Federal Territory Grocers Guild

Located at 78 Jalan Sultan, this three-storey building is owned and occupied by the Grocers' Guild, a trade association representing the interests of the Cantonese-speaking grocers, retail traders and sundry-shop owners in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. Supermarkets and convenience stores are replacing the retail shops, hence the role of the Guild is being eroded. Sadly, its membership has dwindled to only 73 members and sections of the building are now sublet.

According to its trust deed, the building will be given to the government when the Guild is no longer in existence.

This Neo-classical building has fine lines with balconies on the upper floors. The upper balcony is deeply recessed with an unusual shading device above. The façade of the building is surmounted by a curved baroque pediment with "stone" scrolls and medallion. Observe the two giant order pilasters, which are embellished with decorative capitals and "stone" buntings.

Tan Sri Stanley Edward Jewkes, 1913-2011
It is with great sadness that Badan Warisan Malaysia records the passing of Tan Sri Stanley Jewkes on Sunday 19 June 2011, in Florida. Jewkes would have turned 98 this October.

Mubin Sheppard Memorial Prize - Cycle 9 Winners List
The awards and prizes for the Cycle 9 (2010/2011) were conferred on 15 December 2011 preceding the 28th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Badan Warisan Malaysia (BWM). The Prize Giving Ceremony was officiated by YABhg Tun Dato’ Seri Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid, President of BWM.
