National Heritage Act 2005 May 2006
The National Heritage Act (Act 645) received Royal Assent on 30 December 2005 and was published in the Gazette on 31 December 2005. This law came into effect on 1 March 2006.
This is "[a]n Act to provide for the conservation and preservation of National Heritage, natural heritage, tangible and intangible cultural heritage, underwater cultural heritage, treasure trove and for related matters".
On 30 May 2006, the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage organised a briefing on this act to various members of the government and public.
This Act provides for the creation of a National Heritage Register which can be inspected by the members of the public. This register will be administered by the newly created National Heritage Department under the Ministry, which is headed by the Heritage Commissioner, Prof. Dato' Siti Zuraina Abdul Majid.
